Tomatoes and benefits
The tomato was considered poisonous food Once upon a time. Fortunately for us, has regained its popularity the nineteenth century.
Lycopene, a member of the carotenoid family and a pigment that contributes to the color of tomatoes, is an important factor to promote energy health. Lycopene demonstrated by a number of unique properties and distinct biological scientists were intrigued. Some researchers have come to believe that lycopene may be as powerful antioxidants such as beta-carotene. We know that lycopene is the absorber the most efficient singlet oxygen free radicals, an especially damaging oxygen, and Lycopene is also capable eliminate a large number of free radicals.
Lycopene is a nutrient whose time has come. It has attracted great interest as recent researchers increasingly have focused on the particular power of this nutrient. Attention has begun in the 1980s, when studies showed that people who consumed large quantities of tomatoes were much less likely to die from all forms of cancer compared to those who ate little or no tomato. Many other studies have echoed these findings on the effects of tomato consumption.
It's not just cancer that lycopene tomatoes helps to alleviate. Lycopene is an important part of the defense system of anti-oxidant skin. The lycopene in the diet alone or in combination with other nutrients can increase the sun protection factor (SPF) of skin. In other words, tomatoes food (cooked or processed) which improves the ability of skin to resist the assault against the sun's harmful rays. It acts as an inhibitor inner solar!
A study conducted by Dr. David Snowdon, Sanders-Brown Center on Aging at the University of Kentucky, assessed eighty-eight older Catholic nuns between 77 to 98. The nuns, the highest concentrations of lycopene in the blood are best placed to care for themselves and perform daily tasks. On the whole, those with the highest levels of lycopene were 3.6 times more likely to work in daily life than those with a lower level. Most interesting, no similar relationship between force and the presence of other antioxidants (like vitamin E and beta-carotene) was found.
Lycopene is rare in foods, and tomatoes are one of the few who are rich in this antioxidant powerful. Juice and ketchup, pizza sauce and represent over 80 percent of contributions in lycopene United States in general.
While lycopene has received much attention recently, tomatoes are rich in a variety of other nutrients. All nutrients tomato appears to work synergistically to promote health and vitality.
Low in calories, rich in fiber and rich in potassium, tomatoes are not only a rich source of lycopene, are also a source of beta-carotene, alpha-carotene and polyphenols different. They contain Small amounts of B vitamins (thiamin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B6 and niacin) and folic acid, vitamin E, magnesium, manganese and zinc.
Some of the most interesting studies have focused on tomatoes in their ability to protect against cancer, particularly cancer prostate. Dr. Edward Giovannucci of Harvard Medical School, has published two interesting studies investigating the effects of foods, including tomatoes, the risk of cancer. In his 1995 study, Dr. Giovannucci found that of the 48,000 men surveyed, those who ate at least ten servings of tomatoes a week reduced their risk of prostate cancer by 35 percent and the risk of prostate tumors aggressive almost 50 per cent. In fact, it appeared that the increased consumption of tomatoes, the less chance cancer. Interestingly, lycopene is the most abundant carotenoid in the prostate.
After study, Dr. Giovannucci in 1999 showed that All tomato products, consumption of tomato sauce in just two servings a week was by far the most reliable indicator of reduced risk of cancer prostate.
Two important points emerged from these studies. The first is that the sauce and tomato paste are more effective than tomatoes Flood reduce the risk of cancer. In raw tomatoes, lycopene is bound to cell walls and fiber. Treatment of ruptures of the cell walls and releases the lycopene to be absorbed by the body. Ounce for ounce, tomato products and cooked tomatoes contain two to eight times the lycopene of tomato crude available. While the charge does not reduce levels of vitamin C in tomatoes increases the total antioxidant activity, thus renouncing of nutrients available in many other foods, a nutrient that is not.
The second important point that Dr. Giovannucci mentions in its Article stresses again the importance of whole foods. While noting that the association between tomato consumption and reduced risk of cancer especially lung stomach and prostate, causing the compounds clearly that "a direct benefit of lycopene has not been demonstrated in tomatoes and other alone or in interaction with lycopene may be important. "Given the variety of nutrients in tomatoes that would not surprising that, once again, the synergy of these nutrients were the result positive.
Prostate cancer is not the only type of cancer tomatoes appear to help protect. A growing body of evidence suggests that lycopene offers some protection against breast cancer, digestive tract, cervix, bladder and lung cancer.
In addition to being protective against cancer, there is ample evidence that tomatoes also play a role in reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease. The antioxidant function of lycopene with other powerful antioxidant in tomatoes, like vitamin C and beta-carotene, work on the body to neutralize free radicals that could damage cells and cell membranes together. This preservation of cells and their membranes, reduces the potential for inflammation and thereby increase and severity of atherosclerosis.
In one study, German researchers compared the levels of lycopene in tissues of men who had suffered heart attacks with men who had none. Men who have been affected by lower levels of lycopene than others. Interestingly, men with the lowest levels of lycopene were twice as likely to suffer from heart attack than those with the highest levels.
In other major European cities study comparing levels of carotenoids patients from ten different countries, lycopene was found that the greatest protection against heart attacks.
Tomatoes are also a good source of potassium, niacin, vitamin B6 and folate, a heart healthy mix of nutrients. Foods rich in potassium play a positive role in cardiovascular health and is particularly effective in helping to achieve optimal blood pressure. Niacin is commonly used to reduce levels high blood cholesterol. The combination of vitamin B6 and folic acid effectively reduces levels of homocysteine in the blood. Elevated levels of homocysteine associated with an increased risk of heart disease.

When asked about the legacy?
My family was the fat around your child in early adolescence, then shot and became weak. This is the legacy that we can not lose weight now (during my teenage years)? Even when we do the mile and a pacemaker in school, it is rare that any may even lose a pound. I am the healthiest dining room, eating only the right amount of food I'm supposed to. I even raised in a very healthy foods, like bananas and tomatoes. Is this simply proves the legacy?
I think not only inherited. However, in their early teens at the moment is growing so I wish to continue focus on healthy eating and not restrict your diet too, although you can skip the junk food.
