Tomatoes History harvest and health
Spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, salsa, soup and not be the same without tomatoes. It is difficult to imagine a life without this delicious fruit. Fruit? Tomatoes are part of the reproductive Tomato Plant, so that botanically are fruits. However, for horticultural and cooking, tomatoes are vegetables, because they are often used in savory dishes. Tomatoes are not always popular, however. They had a rough history from the mountains of Peru to the dining tables.
Tomato history
Tomato Plants from the "New World, or the Western Hemisphere. Most likely originating in Peru, the tomato plants were domesticated in what we know today Central America. Hundreds of years of cultivation changed the weeds, plants, apparently useless, in a prolific producer of delicious fruit.
Brought in the Mediterranean region by the Spanish conquerors, and widely used for centuries, has taken much longer to Europeans accept the tomato. Tomatoes belong to the family of plants "in the family Solanaceae, the family of potato. Eggplant, potatoes Earth and tomatoes, all share the same genes. The family of the potato is also the nightshade family, which has contributed to the entrenched belief that tomatoes were poisonous. Tomato plants are similar in appearance to plants of the Night. Popular belief that witches used conveyed the Solanaceae to call werewolves. The common name for tomatoes "wolf peach. Linnaeus, adoption and implementation of a modern system of nomenclature bionomial, called the tomato Lycopersicon esculentum, which translates Peach edible wolf. "
Tomatoes countries are not widely accepted, grown and consumed in Europe and in North America until the mid-nineteenth century, when the myth of the tomato as freeways of poisoning have been resting. In the United States, Tomato cultivation began in 1820, when Colonel Robert Johnson ate a basket of tomatoes in a public place to put to rest rumors of tomatoes adverse effects. Meanwhile, most people still grew their own vegetables, with enthusiasm and began to grow tomatoes in their field. These parcels 19th Century garden, which are old varieties of tomatoes, so treasure today were grown, differentiated, and preserved.
The benefits of tomatoes
Once people began to cultivate and harvest your own tomatoes, do not stop the popularity of the vegetable. Tomatoes are very versatile and can be eaten cooked or raw, whole or mashed, sauces, soups, sauces and salads. Health benefits are best when tomatoes are cooked with a little healthy oil. Cooking helps break down cell walls of plants, releasing nutrients. Healthy oils such as using olive oil in the absorption of vitamins and nutrients in tomatoes.
Since its inception, sparse undergrowth and doubtful, the tomatoes have become a basic food crops across the world. Prized for their flavor and health benefits, tomatoes are a classic of the modern kitchen.

Need a recipe for tomato (red) sauce for pasta, please?

The best tomato sauce recipe – if you're not always super-fresh tomatoes, then use stored, that function very well. Chop the celery, carrot, onion and garlic into small pieces (1 / 8 inch / 3 mm), roughly the same size. Place tomato pieces in a large saucepan. Place the carrots, then celery, onion, garlic, herbs and finally on top. Pour olive oil and bake for 1 hour over medium heat, without stirring, but transfer the pan to prevent sticking. Pour the contents through a food mill (or if you did not use a food processor, but not overmix, the sauce should be thick and quite heavy and should be able to see small pieces of vegetables in a sauce). Add butter and reduce yet the sauce until it has thickened slightly, about 10 minutes. Cool. Freeze in small quantities and is concentrated sauce
