How to cultivate and take care of a tomato plant

Can I plant a whole tomato inherit land as a garden plant?
I have some that I picked tomatoes on the market local farmers and has been interesting to grow my own Tomato Plants From these samples. What is the best way to do this? Should I take the seeds and if yes then what and how? Or is it possible to put whole tomatoes in soil and grow? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
